Advent
The Advent Season is the first season of the Catholic liturgical calendar. Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” It is about 4 weeks long and begins on the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Andrew (November 30.)
We Catholics try to use this time as a spiritual preparation for Christmas. Catholics often adopt extra prayer practices, advent devotions and various traditions. Among the popular traditions of Advent is the Advent wreath, Advent calendar and the Jesse tree.
