Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“But he passed through the midst of them and went away.” Luke 4:30

Jesus passed through the midst of them. Unseen. Unrecognized. Even when he read the scripture to them, they did not recognize him.

They did not recognize their Savior.

How many times has Jesus passed through our midst unrecognized? How many times have we missed seeing him?

He is present in our neighbor. He is present in our church. In the Word. In the Eucharist. He is present in the events of our lives. He dwells in our hearts.

Do we recognize Him?

Or do we miss him?

Lord, help me to recognize you in all I meet and in all the events of my life. Help me to keep my eyes open. Heal my blindness and my deafness. And help me to reveal you to others, too. Thank you for never leaving us, even when we do not see. Amen.
