James 3:13-18; Mark 9:14-29
When (Jesus) entered the house, his disciples asked him in private, “Why could we not drive the spirit out?” He said to them, “This kind can only come out through prayer.” – Mk 9:28-29
The disciples need Jesus’ power to drive out evil. What evil do I need Jesus to help me to drive out?
Lord, I try so very hard to not allow any evil in my life. I am human and sometimes fail. Help me to weed out the evil in my life and to never give into it again.

Then (Jesus) sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” – Mark 9:35
How is Jesus calling me to service today?
Lord, I hear your call to me. I know you wish me to be of service to others. Help me to discern in what areas you need my service. Grant me the strength to always be of service to others in your name.

Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us.” – Mark 9:39-40
The disciples saw someone perform a mighty deed in the name of Jesus. What mighty deed could I do if I did it in the name of Jesus?
Lord, I always try to do whatever you tell me to do. There are times that I find it hard to perform a task for your benefit. Help me to remember to do all things in your name, because I can accomplish anything in your name.

“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.” – Mark 9:43
What harmful practices do I most need to cut off from my life?
Lord, I know there are some practices that keep me from pleasing you in all ways. Help me to root out these practices and remove them from my life. Grant me the understanding to see what needs to be changed and the courage to make the necessary changes.

What answers to my own questions can I find using scripture?
Lord, I have so many questions. I know you have given us all the answers. Help me to find your answers in scripture. Grant me the knowledge to find the answers and the strength to put the answers into practice.
