2 Kings 17:5-8, 13-15a, 18; Matthew 7:1-5

Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? – Mt. 7:3

Jesus tells us: “Stop judging.” Do I judge others?

Lord, there are times that I become very judgmental. It is hard not to be. Help me to see better my own faults and to be less judgmental of the faults of others. Neverlet me forget that as I judge others so also will I be judged.

“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.” – Mt 7:12

What does it mean to treat others as we would want to be treated?

Lord, I always wish to follow your teachings. There are times, however, I find it difficult to treat others as I should. Help me to understand why. Grant me the strength to change what I must to do so.

So by their fruits you will know them. – Mt 7:20

What do I need to change in order to produce better fruit in my life?

Lord, I try so hard but I know there are times I fail. Help me to recognize when I am not producing good fruit and to change my life so as to always produce the best fruit for you. Strengthen my will to do what is right.

Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. – Mt 7:24

Do my actions show my neighbor that I am a Christian?

Lord, I try but sometimes I fail. Help me to do a better job of bringing others to you by my actions. Help me to live always by actions that reflect my love of you. Never allow my actions to turn anyone against you.

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist

Isaiah 49:1-6; Acts 13:22-26; Luke 1:57-66, 80

The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel. – Lk 1:80

Do I live a life like John the Baptist? Do I serve God in all things?

Lord, it is always my desire to serve you. However, some things always seem to get in the way. Help me to be more dedicated to serving you and looking for ways to surrender my life to your service.
