Amos 2:6-10, 13-16; Matthew 8:18-22

A scribe approached and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” – Mt 8:19

Jesus says “Follow me.” What does it mean to follow Jesus?

Lord, I yearn to follow you. What does it mean for me to follow you? Help me to know where you want me to go, where you want me to be. I know it is not always easy to follow you. Grant me the strength to not be afraid. Help me to hear your voice, so I know where you want me to go or what you want me to do.

Saint Irenaeus, Bishop and Martyr

Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12; Matthew 8:23-27

They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! – We are perishing!” – Mt 8:25

Jesus is always with us. Do I remember to call upon Jesus for help when things are rough?

Lord, I know you are always there to help me in times of trouble, but I am a product of this modern generation. I often think I need to be completely self-reliant. Help me to always remember to turn to you in times of trouble because you are always there.

St. Peter and St. Paul, apostles

Acts 12:1-11; 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18; Matthew 16:13-19

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” – Mt 16:15

Jesus wants to know who people think he is. Who do I think Jesus is in my life?

Lord, I know who you are, but do I really know who you are to me personally? Help me to have a better understanding of just who you are to me in my life.

Thurs., June 30, 2016

Amos 7:10-17; Matthew 9:1-8

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.” – Mt 9:2

Jesus heals. What healing do I most need right now?

Lord, there is so much I need from you. Help me to see where I am in most need of healing both physically and spiritually. Send your healing and forgiving power into me and heal and forgive those areas that I am in most need of.

Fri., July 1, 2016

Amos 8:4-6, 9-12; Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. – Mt 9:9

How is Jesus calling me as I go about my tasks? Am I too busy to listen?

Lord, I know you are calling me, but there are times when I am just too busy to listen. Help me to be more attentive to your call and to be more faithful in following your call.
