St. James

2 Corinthians 4:7-15; Matthew 20:20-28

Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. – Mt 20:28

Jesus said he did not come to be served but to serve. Am I a servant to many in the name of Jesus?

Lord, I wish to be your faithful servant. Help me to be a servant to your people on earth and to be a better example of your love for them. Never allow me to put my own wishes ahead of those that will further your name.

Sts. Joachim and Anne – Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Jeremiah 14:17-22; Matthew 13:36-43

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear. – Mt 13:43

Are my ears always open to the word of Jesus?

Lord, your word is always present. Help me to better hear what you say and to act accordingly. Never allow me to be deaf to your teachings.

Jeremiah 15:10, 16-21; Matthew 13:44-46

The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. – Mt 13:44

Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is like a newly found treasure. How can I experience God in this way?

Lord, having you in my life is greater than any treasure I could find. Grant me the wisdom to surrender whatever I may have to in order to have a greater experience of your presence. Always help me to be willing to give up anything for you.

Jeremiah 18:1-6; Matthew 13:47-53

Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous. – Mt 13:49

Jesus tells us that the angels will separate the righteous from the wicked. Where will I be placed, with the righteous or the wicked?

Lord, I try so very hard to follow all of your teachings, but there are times when I fail. Help me to remain on the side of the righteous. I seek this not because I fear the punishment but because I know it offends you when I am counted with the wicked.

St. Martha

Jeremiah 26:1-9; John 11:19-27 or Luke 10:38-42

The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.” – Luke 10:41

Martha is upset that her sister is too busy listening to Jesus to help with the chores. Am I a good listener to Jesus or am I too busy with everyday chores?

Lord, there is so much that I think I must do in this life. There are times I find myself to busy to spend time listening to you. Help me to understand that there is nothing more important for me to do but listen to you.
