The Passion of John the Baptist
1 Corinthians 2:1-5; Mark 6:17-29
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him. – Mk 6:20
Do I have the courage to be like John the Baptist, and speak up when I see evil in my world?
Lord, I am surrounded by evil. I know I am called to confront this evil whenever possible. Grant me the wisdom to recognize all evil in my life and the courage to confront that evil with your word. Never allow me to accept evil in my life.

They were all amazed and said to one another, “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” – Lk 4:36
Jesus drove the evil spirits from the man in the synagogue. What evil thoughts or behaviors do I need to be delivered from?
Lord, there are many evil spirits attacking me constantly. Help me to know which ones I am in most need of your help with. Grant me the strength to resist any evil spirits that attack me.

1 Corinthians 3:1-9; Luke 4:38-44
At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. – Lk 4:42
The crowd wanted Jesus to stay with them. What do I do to welcome Jesus into my life?
Lord, I so want your presence to always be in my life. Help me to eliminate that which separates us. Grant me the strength to eliminate all barriers. Please feel welcomed into my life always.
Thurs., September 1
1 Corinthians 3:18-23; Luke 5:1-11
When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him. – Lk 5:11
Simon left everything behind to follow Jesus. What do I need to leave behind to better follow Jesus?
Lord, I have so much and I am so attached to it. Help me to see what holds me back in following you and grant me the courage to leave it behind. Nothing is so valuable that it should separate us.
Fri., September 2
1 Corinthians 4:1-5; Luke 5:33-39
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. – Lk 5:38
What has been hardest for me to change in order to follow Jesus?
Lord, I want to be your faithful follower. Help me to see what gets in the way of my following you. Grant me the strength to remove that roadblock. Never let me weaken in my efforts to follow you more faithfully.
