The Baptism of the Lord

Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7 or Acts 10:34-38; Mt 3:13-17

And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” – Mt 3:17

At His baptism the Father said he was well pleased with the Son. Do I believe God is pleased with me?

What do I need to do to become more pleasing to God? Lord, show me where I displease you and help me to correct that situation. Help me to become more pleasing to you every day, little by little.

Tues., January 10, 2017

Hebrews 2:5-12; Mark 1:21-28

All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.” – Mk 1:28

What surprises me most about Jesus? Do I take all that he did for granted?

Lord, help me to find those places in my life where you surprise me. Never let me take you and your life, and teachings, for granted.

Wed., January 11, 2017

Hebrews 2:14-18; Mark 1:29-39

He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. – Mk 1:34

Where has my compassion for others led me?

Lord, I do feel genuine compassion for my fellow man. Help me to understand the direction in which I must minister to better serve all mankind. Never let my compassion for others weaken.

Thurs., January 12, 2017

Hebrews 3:7-14; Mark 1:40-45

A leper came to him [and kneeling down] begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” – Mk 1:40

The leper had faith that Jesus could make him clean. Do I have that kind of faith? Have I asked Jesus to make me clean?

Lord, there is so much that I need you to cleanse me from. Help me to understand what is most important for me to be cleansed of. Grant me the courage to ask your help in cleansing me of all my impurities.

Fri., January 13, 2017

Hebrews 4:1-5, 11; Mark 2:1-12

They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. – Mk 2:3

Who has helped me to get closer to Jesus?

Lord, there are so many people who have helped me to get closer to you. Help me to see who has been the most help to me, and grant me the courage to step out to help others as I have been helped.
