Acts 6:8-15; John 6:22-29

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.” – John 6:29

How have I answered Jesus’ invitation to believe?

Lord, I have received your invitation. I want to share in the work of God. Help me to understand how I may best do this. Grant me the fortitude to step up and begin this work. Never let me neglect my responsibility in this area.

St. Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Acts 7:51-8:1a; John 6:30-35

So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” – John 6:34

What is this bread from heaven that gives us life?

Lord, I hunger for so much. Help me to see that which you alone can satisfy. Grant me the wisdom to discern my needs that you alone can satisfy and the courage to allow you to do so. For only through you may I be satisfied completely.

St. Philip and St. James

1 Corinthians 15:1-8; John 14:6-14

“If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. ” – John 14:14

Jesus tells us that whatever we ask of his name will be granted. What am I asking Jesus to do in my life today?

Lord, I have so many needs. Help me to see those that will help to bring me closer to you. Grant me the understanding to see my most pressing needs and the grace to accept your wishes in those matters.

Thurs., May 4, 2017

Acts 8:26-40; John 6:44-51

I am the bread of life. – John 6:48

Jesus said that he is the living bread. At the Last Supper He passed that bread on to the Apostles. And through them to us in the form of the Eucharist. Do I truly believe that the Eucharist is the real presence of Jesus?

Lord, the mystery of the Eucharist is hard to understand. I want to believe, but at times it is a hard teaching. Help me in my unbelief.

Acts 9:1-20; John 6:52-59

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. – John 6:55

Jesus told us that unless we eat his flesh and drink his blood we will not have eternal life. Do I partake of the Eucharist regularly and as frequently as possible?

Lord, you have left us with the marvelous gift of your body and blood. Help me to grow in appreciation of the gift. Help me to grow in a greater adoration of your body and blood in the Eucharist.
