Exodus 14:5-18; Matthew 12:38-42

He said to them in reply, “An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. – Matthew 12:39

Jesus seems annoyed by the scribes’ and Pharisees’ requests for signs. Do I need signs of God’s love and presence in my life?

Lord, I know you are always with me and yet I am always looking for signs. Please help me to be more aware of your presence and love in my life. I need to trust more in you without needing signs. Help me to grow in that trust.

St. James, apostle

2 Corinthians 4:7-15; Matthew 20:20-28

“Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mt 20:28

Jesus said he did not come to be served but to serve. Am I a servant to many in the name of Jesus?

Lord, I wish to be your faithful servant. Help me to be a servant to your people on earth and to be a better example of your servant love for them. Never allow me to put my own wishes ahead of those that will further your name.

Sts. Joachim and Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgina Mary

Exodus 16:1-5, 9-15; Matthew 13:1-9

“But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.” – Mt 13:8

God is the sower, sowing seeds among his people. What type of soil is he sowing in as he distributes his seed within me?

Lord, help me to become the most fertile soil imaginable as you sow your seeds of wisdom. Help me to me receptive in order to accept your seeds. Never allow me to let those seeds you sow within me be wasted or spoiled.

Thurs., July 27, 2017

Exodus 19:1-2,9-11, 16-20b; Matthew 13:10-17

“Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” – Mt. 13:17

Jesus tells the disciples that they are blessed because they see and hear what many do not. Am I aware of God’s presence in my world today?

Lord, I would like to be more aware of your presence in my life. Sometimes my eyes and ears are not open to know what you would like me to experience. Sometimes I just do not pay attention. Help me to hear you and see you in the events and people that enter my life every day.

Fri., July 28, 2017

Exodus 20:1-17; Matthew 13:18-23

“But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.” – Mt 13:23

God has given us many gifts. Do I use these gifts to the best of my ability? Do I bear fruit?

Lord, I am so grateful for the gifts you have given me. Help me to use them to do your will and to bring your love to others. Help me to hear your word and understand.
