Monday, January 18
1 Samuel 15:16-23; Mark 2:18-22
What new behaviors are now necessary in my living with Christ?
Jesus, help me to see what I need to change in my daily life in order to grow closer to you. Grant me the courage to make those changes. For to grow closer to you is worth any changes demanded.
Tuesday, January 19
1 Samuel 16:1-13; Mark 2:23-28
Do I observe the Sabbath properly? Aside from attending church, do I remember the Lord on his day? Or do I go about as usual not taking the rest the Lord told us to take on the Sabbath?
Lord, help me to observe your day properly. Do not allow me to be so caught up in the things of this world that I neglect those of the next.
Wednesday, January 20
1 Samuel 17:32-33; 37, 40-51; Mark 3:1-6
Jesus was angry that the Pharisees did not want him to heal on the Sabbath. Put yourself in the shoes of the man with the withered hand. How would you feel knowing Jesus wanted to heal you?
Lord, help me to be more like Jesus. Grant me the courage to always consider the greater good no matter what the possible consequences might be.
Thursday, January 21
1 Samuel 18:6-9; 19:1-7; Mark 3:7-12
Jesus refused to allow evil spirits to make him known. How has Jesus been inviting me to make him known?
Lord, help me to understand the tasks that you have for me. Give me the knowledge to identify these tasks and the courage to follow through in performing them. It is my job to help make you known to the world.
Friday, January 22
1 Samuel 24:3-21; Mark 3:13-19
Jesus chose his disciples first to be with him and only then to share his work. How am I growing as a follower of Jesus by daily being with him? Am I trying to do his work without first spending some time with him?
Jesus, allow me into your presence so that by spending time alone with you I may better understand the tasks you have set before me.
