Feb. 8 – 12, 2016

Monday, February 8
1 Kings 8:1-7, 9-13; Mark 6:53-56

Jesus heals. There are so many kinds of healing needed these days. What do I need to ask Jesus to heal in myself and in others?

Lord, there are many areas of my life that need your healing touch. Help me to understand the area in myself and in others that is in most need. Grant me the courage to step up and seek that healing.

Tuesday, February 9
1 Kings 8:22-23, 27-30; Mark 7:1-13

Jesus tells us that the traditions of God are far more important than our traditions. What traditions of ours’ get in the way of my following Jesus?

Lord, there are times that I get so confused as to what I should be doing. I want to follow your example and teachings, but our human traditions get in the way. Grant me the knowledge to understand what is from me and what is God’s. Help me to always make the correct choice.

Wednesday, February 10
Ash Wednesday
Joel 2:12-18; 2 Corinthians 5:20 – 6:2; Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

“But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” Mt 6:3-4

Do I do good deeds in secret or do I seek recognition for my good deeds? Think of some ways you can do this.

Lord, my human nature drives me to seek recognition for all that I do. Help me to become humbler in my life so that I may do as you instructed. Take away my need for recognition and help me to be more secretive as I do good deeds for your glory.

Thursday, February 11
Deuteronomy 30:15-20; Luke 9:22-25

“Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Lk 9:23

What is the heaviest cross I carry in my life?  What are some ways you can deny yourself this Lent?

Lord, there are so many crosses in my life. Help me to carry each and every one of them for your greater glory. Never allow me to tire of carrying my crosses. Grant me whatever strength is necessary.

Friday, February 12
Isaiah 58:1-9a; Matthew 9:14-15

Jesus said that the disciples will fast when he is gone. Have you made a commitment to fasting this Lent?

Lord, help me to understand what fasting means. Help me to know what I need to fast from this Lent. May I be a faithful disciple of yours and grow closer to you through my fasting.

  1. I’m glad I found your new blog. I’ll be able to use it to focus my prayers when I return to China where there’s so little spiritual information in English.
