1 Kgs 17:1-6; Matthew 5:1-12

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” – Mt 5:3

In today’s Gospel, Jesus gave us the Beatitudes. Have I adopted these simple rules to my life?

Lord, I know that these rules will go a long way to help me toward salvation. Help me to better adopt them to my life. Grant me the courage to change whatever in my life stops me from abserving your Beatitudes.

1 Kings 17:7-16; Matthew 5:13-16

Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. – Mt 5:16

Jesus tells us that our light should shine so others can see the good that we do. Do I allow my light to shine for others?

Lord, there are times that I would rather not allow others to see my light. Help me to realize that by allowing my light to shine for others, I will help lead them to salvation through you.

1 Kings 18:20-39; Matthew 5:17-19

” … whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Mt 5:19

Do I always obey and teach the word of God?

Lord, there are times when I shy away from letting others see how I live the life you wish me to live. Help me to be more open in following you so that as I follow, others will be encouraged to do the same. Make my life an example to the world around me.

 1 Kgs 18:41-46; Matthew 5:20-26

Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that
of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus cautions us against anger. How might anger affect my relationship with God?

Lord, I try not to do this but there are times that I become angry for different reasons. Help me to control my anger. Grant me the strength to never let my anger come between me and my relationship with you.

1 Kgs 19:9a 11-16; Matthew 5:27-32

Sometimes we can better hear God in the whispering sound. What is God saying to me?

Lord, I do not always hear your whisper. Help me to better hear what you want of me. Grant me the knowledge of what you whisper in my ear. Help me to better follow your wishes. Never allow me to ignore your whisper.
