Recognizing the Messiah

Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.”  – Lk 2:29-32

Simeon recognized the Messiah in a little baby. He looked up and saw Mary & Joseph, holding the newborn baby, Jesus, and he knew.

This is the Messiah.

Do we recognize Jesus in others? Do we recognize Jesus in a little child or an old man or the lady serving us coffee at a local restaurant?

Are we aware of the presence of God in our midst?

Prayer, of course, is the key. Simeon spent a lot of time in the temple, praying. If we wish to recognize Jesus in our daily lives, we need to spend time talking to him. And listening to him. And reading scripture.

We need to spend time every day with the King of kings.

Do we?
