Jesus and Peter

Peter said to him, “Master, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” – Mt 13:37

Peter, Peter, Peter.

We all know, of course, that Peter will deny Jesus three times. But we still love him, because many of us are a lot like him.

I would like to think that I would not have denied Jesus like Peter did. But if I am really honest with myself, I know that it is a real possibility.

But what I love about Peter is his total love for Jesus. And his desire to please Him, even if he fails sometimes.

One of my favorite gospel stories is the one when Jesus is on the beach (after the resurrection) and the apostles are in a boat fishing. Peter sees Jesus, jumps out of the boat and swims to shore. He just cannot contain himself.

I hope my love for Jesus is at least half that much. I hope that on those days when I see Jesus on the shore, that I drop everything to go to Him. And I don’t let fear stop me.
