The Good Shepherd

I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. – John 10:9

I was once on retreat and my spiritual director told me about how shepherds took care of their sheep. And one of the things they did was to sleep at the entrance of the sheepfold to guard them and protect them from harm.

In other words, they acted as the gate.

Jesus tells us He is our Shepherd. He wants us to know that He is our gate and He protects us from harm.

There is a lot of fear these days. Fear of disease. Fear of joblessness.

Let us remember that we are not alone. Remember to trust and hold on to our Gatekeeper.

Our Good Shepherd.

Jesus, I know you are with me always. Help me to not be afraid.
