Reaching Out in Prayer

After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. – Matthew 14:24

Mass is prayer and is one of the most important ways to grow closer to God. Praying with community is important.

However, personal prayer, spending time alone with Jesus, is also important. Praying the rosary, listening to God in silence, praying with scripture (lectio divina, for example) are some ways to pray alone.

And St. Augustine said that “to sing is to pray twice!”

Our personal prayer time adds to the life of our parishes and our community prayer at Mass adds to the life of our family and friends.

In this time of the pandemic, many of us are not able to pray in community. Yet still, we reach out in whatever way we can.

What an example Jesus gives us. Thank you, Lord.

Jesus, help me to remember to spend alone time with you. Help me to reach out to the parish community through prayer, especially now in this time of quarantine. Amen.
