Never Give Up

“She came and fell at his feet.” Mk 7:25

Sometimes we find ourselves in a difficult or painful situation that we are not sure we will ever survive. And all we can do is get on our knees and beg God for a miracle.
Have you ever felt that way? Isn’t that how the woman in this story felt when she begged Jesus to heal her daughter?
Several years ago my husband suddenly became confused. It came out of the blue and I knew something was terribly wrong. Some doctors and nurses thought he was just a confused old man.
So I begged and pleaded with everyone. And got on my knees to pray for God to heal my husband. One of the doctors listened to me and also my son-in-law who was a nurse anesthetist. A neurosurgeon was called in and discovered a blocked carotid artery. Surgery was done and my husband was healed.
I have often thought of this gospel story since then.
Sometimes all we can do is fall on our knees before Jesus and beg him for help. And not give up. Be persistent.
Like the woman in this gospel.

Jesus, thank you for listening to our cries for help and healing. Help us to remember to never give up and to trust in you. Amen.
