Take Up Our Cross

Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily – and follow me.” – Luke 9:23

Seems like a no-brainer. I mean, if we want to follow Jesus, if we want to go to heaven and live forever with Jesus, then we need to deny ourselves and carry our crosses. Not the crosses we choose for Lent. Our “real” crosses. The ones we bear in our everyday ordinary lives.

But that is why we need Lent. We all know that we need to pray and fast and repent during the Lenten season. We make promises to be better people. We take a good look at our own crosses.

And we then hope and pray that this all brings us closer to Jesus. We hope and pray that we are truly following Jesus to Jerusalem. To the promised land.
